How To Get Acrylic Nails Off

How to Remove Acrylic Nails at Home

Essential Tools and Materials

To remove acrylic nails safely and effectively, gather the following tools and materials:

  • Nail file with two grits (100/80 grit recommended)
  • Nail buffer
  • Acetone (not regular polish remover)
  • Orangewood stick or cuticle pusher
  • Floss pick or nail clippers
  • Cotton balls
  • Tin foil or nail clips

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. File Down the Acrylic

Use the coarse grit (100 grit) of the nail file to gently file down the surface of the acrylic nails, removing any shine.

2. Lift the Edges

Gently use the floss pick or cuticle pusher to lift the bottom edge of the acrylic nails closest to your cuticles.

3. Acetone Soak

Soak cotton balls in pure acetone and place them on the acrylic nails. Wrap your fingers in tin foil or use nail clips to secure the cotton balls.

4. Patience and Waiting

Let the acetone solution sit for approximately 30 minutes, depending on the thickness of the acrylic.

5. Removal

Once the acrylic has softened, use the orangewood stick or cuticle pusher to gently pry off the remaining acrylic pieces.

6. Buffing and Polishing

Use a nail buffer and polisher to remove any residual acrylic and smooth out your natural nails.

Tips for Success

* Avoid using metal implements as they can damage your natural nails. * Always use pure acetone, not regular polish remover. * Wear gloves while using acetone to protect your skin. * If the acetone solution doesn't soften the acrylic sufficiently, soak the nails for a longer duration. * Take breaks during the soaking process to prevent your nails from drying out. * If you experience any discomfort or irritation, stop the removal process and consult a nail technician.
